Administrative Assistant Is Still The Most Common Job For Women In America
Despite women accounting for the majority of college graduates, the most common profession for women in the United States is still administrative assistant, more commonly referred to as secretary.
Around 4 million U.S. women hold the title, which was the same title most commonly held by women in 1950.
The numbers are somewhat surprising, as the opportunities for higher education provide highly competitive job markets for women to enter that weren’t previously accessible.
According to a CNN Money report that cites data from the most recent census data, 96% of the 4 million administrative assistants between 2006 and 2010 were women.
It will be interesting to see how these numbers change in the 2020 census.
