Citi Leads Financial Stocks Higher

Shares of Citigroup Inc. rose 3% to lead financial gainers in the S&P 500 on Thursday as the broader market moved higher in quiet trading ahead of the year-end holidays.

Citi C +5.02%  added 3%, while the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF XLF +1.33% , which tracks the financial stocks in the S&P 500 SPX +0.42%  , added 1.1%.

Among the Dow DJIA +0.25%  financial stocks, Bank of America Corp. BAC +2.51%   rose 0.7%, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. AXP -0.31%   JPM +2.45%  added 2%, American Express Co. rose 0.9% and Travelers Cos. Inc. TRV +0.17%  gained 0.4%.
