German Car Makers To Increase U.S. Market Share

German car makers’ association Verband der Automobilindustrie said Monday German auto manufacturers aim to increase market share in the U.S. this year.

In the U.S. market, VDA expects light-vehicle sales to increase 5% to 13.4 million in 2012.

Rising consumer confidence, the replacement of old vehicles and more stable gasoline prices will buoy sales, VDA President Matthias Wissmann said at a press conference at the Detroit Motor Show.

Medium and long-term prospects for the North American market are also good, he added.
