There is a GameStop right next to my apartment by Union Square. At this GameStop, and no doubt every other one in the US at least, there was a line going out the door and spilling out along the sidewalk.

What were all these devout gamers waiting for you might ask? Well, at this point everyone, even the reclusive girlfriend, knows it was the long awaited Grand Theft Auto V.

Raking in $800 million in first-day sales all over the globe, Rockstar’s game crushed the original leader in first-day sales, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which had a mere $500 million in profit.

As the LA Times explains, Call of Duty went on “to reach a billion in sales in 15 days — faster, many observed, than the box office record-holder ‘ Avatar.’”

The fact that video games have gained such a massive foothold in the market is impressive. The game is basically like playing a character in a movie… a very long movie whose plot delivers in an impressive way that can seldom be compared to most other games.

Elite Daily’s own, Tyler Gildin, was out on the scene while people eagerly awaited GTA’s initial release. Though he seemed to meet people of all ages and from all walks of life, they all shared the same anticipation, if not obsession for the game.

I think it is safe to say that a lot of girlfriends are going to be lonely for at least the next week. I hope they manage to keep their jobs though.

Sitting In Filth: Children’s Car Seats Are Even Grosser Than Toilets

The seats parents use to protect their children may, in fact, be endangering them. Your average toilet has about 50 different kinds of bacteria in one area. That’s nothing compared to what researchers at the University of Birmingham found when they swabbed 20 children’s car seats. The seats had about 100 different kinds of fungi and […]

The US Government Actually Spent $1 Billion In The 80s Attempting To Build Skynet

Remember Skynet from “The Terminator” movies? You know, the network of computers and machines that became self-aware and decided to wipe out humanity? Yeah, well the US government actually attempted to build something eerily similar to Skynet in the 1980s. And they spent $1 billion doing it. DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is the […]
