Charity and fundraising database The Chronicle of Philanthropy has compiled a list of the 10 biggest publicly announced donations of 2013.

The largest gift was given by Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, who donated 18 million shares of Facebook stock worth over $990 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Yet despite the huge sums, Philanthropy reports, America‘s Elite did not donate as much as they did before the recession.

In 2007, the biggest individual gifts amounted to $4.1 billion, compared to $100 million in 2013.

The list consists of 15 gifts due to six people tying for Number 10 with donations of $100 million.

From Philanthropy:

The Original 7-Up Contained An Ingredient That Would Enhance Your Mood

Popular soda 7-Up used to contain a mind-altering substance and went by a much longer, less catchy name. The Fossils Of A Shark-Eating, 97-Million-Year-Old Underwater Dinosaur Have Been Found

In 2001, “Jurassic Park III” introduced us to Spinosaurus, a gigantic meat-eater that could take a Tyrannosaurus rex down with ease. It wasn’t until recently, however, when some fossils were dug up in the Moroccan Sahara that scientists determined that Spinosaurus was not only the largest carnivore to ever live, but also the first dinosaur […]
