U.S. Stock Indexes Poised For Weekly Rise

U.S. stocks on Friday rose modestly, adding to weekly gains, after economic data had durable goods rising in November by the most in four months. A separate report had consumer spending rising less than forecast last month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.28% added 13.1 points to 1,2182.75, with 20 of its 30 components rising.

The S&P 500 SPX +0.29% added 2.2 points to 1,256.20, with telecom and utilities leading gains that included all but one of its 10 major sectors. Financials weighed,

The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.28% advanced 4.21 points to 2,603.66.

Advancers outpaced decliners almost 2 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange, where 55 million shares traded as of 9:50 a.m. Eastern.
