US Stocks Fall On Worrisome Signs From China

Concerns about the Chinese economy are driving stocks lower at midday. The Dow Jones industrial average is down 72 points at 13,167. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is lower by eight at 1,402. The Nasdaq composite index is off 21 points at 3,058.

Asian stocks fell sharply Monday after a report that home prices dropped in 45 Chinese cities last month. Economic growth in China has helped sustain the struggling world economy.

On Wall Street, bank and consumer products stocks are higher. Most of the rest of the market is lower.
