The husband of a jogger who was kidnapped and tortured over the course of nearly a month has revealed horrifying details about her condition.

Keith Papini said his wife Sherri had been shaved, branded and suffered a broken nose in her ordeal.

Speaking to "Good Morning America" after visiting her in hospital, he said,

Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see upon my arrival at the hospital, nor the details of the true hell I was about to hear. My first sight was my wife in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of her repeated beatings, the bridge of her nose broken. She has been branded and I could feel the rise of her scabs under my fingers.

Sherri, of Redding, California, was kidnapped on November 2.

The 34-year-old had gone out for a jog late that morning and Keith grew concerned when he could not make contact with her about picking up the kids from school.

He tried to retrace her steps and came across her mobile phone around one mile away from their home.

Keith contacted the authorities and a huge search was carried out.

Eventually, her kidnappers released her on the side of a road on Interstate 5 in Yolo County in the early hours of Thanksgiving, November 24.

Audio from police dispatchers at the time, obtained by The Sacramento Bee, heard how "she [was] chained to something." Around a minute later, someone says,

She is heavily battered and it is a confirmed kidnapping.

Keith thanked all those who sent messages of support to Sherri and the family. He said,

Thank you to the many incredible humans that have never known Sherri that facilitated in sharing our heartbreak across the globe. Sherri has always captured my heart and it is no surprise that she has captured the hearts not only through the country, but throughout the world.

No arrests have been made in connection with the kidnapping as of yet.
