Yes, you read that right. A 5-year-old boy is in stable condition at a hospital in Denver, Colorado after his mom saved him from a mountain lion attack on Friday night.

You can't make this stuff up.

According to CNN, the boy was playing outside with his older brother when their mother heard screams. She reportedly ran outside and "was able to physically remove her son from the mountain lion," according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.

The Denver Post reports that both the mother and her son suffered some injuries, but the mother was treated and released while her son still recovers. After the mother described where the attack occurred, the US Forest Service later tracked down a mountain lion and killed it.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said of the animal,

Mountain lions are generally calm, quiet, and elusive. They tend to live in remote, primitive country with plentiful deer and adequate cover.

The agency estimates 3,000 to 7,000 mountain lions live in Colorado.

With all the recent news and dialogue about animals and children, whether it's the shooting of Harambe the gorilla or the child eaten by an alligator in Walt Disney World, it's good to hear about one animal news story that doesn't end completely badly.
