New iOS Update Has All The Emoji You've Been Desperately Waiting For

by Sean Levinson

Over 100 new emoji are available for Apple users, thanks to new software unveiled today.

Updating to iOS 9.1 results in new planet wallpapers and improvements to Live Photos and CarPlay, which allows users to control their iPhones from the display panels of cars.

But easily the most talked-about additions are new emoji such as a taco, burrito, hot dog, the Vulcan salute and, finally, the middle finger.

The update comes with more smiley faces, as well as a new section for animal and nature emoji featuring a unicorn, turkey, lion and many more, according to Mashable. There are also more characters representing religious settings, along with equipment for the sports of archery, weightlifting, badminton and even cricket.

According to The Verge, the Live Photos function on the iPhone 6s records 1.5 seconds of footage after a photo is taken. Those 1.5 seconds, however, often turn out to be the recording of an iPhone entering a user's pocket.

With iOS 9.1, the camera actually detects when the device is being put down and stops recording.

Today additionally saw the release on an update for OS X El Capitan, making Apple computers more compatible with Microsoft Office.
