Norwegian Black Metal Rocker Used Reverse Psychology To Get On Town Council

We all know how to "cruise like a Norwegian," but do you know how to "rock so hard that you're elected to a position on your town council that you actually don't want... like a Norwegian?"

Well, this guy does.

World, meet black metal musician Fenriz who just got elected to his town council of Kolbotn, Norway.

Originally, the musician for the band Darkthrone had put his name on a "backup list" of candidates, and according to him, he never thought he'd actually be elected.

He told FACT,

They called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives]. I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn't really have to do anything. They just need a list to be able to… well, it's hard to talk local politics in another language.

Of course, Fenriz tried everything he could to not get elected. He even posted a picture of himself with his cat asking people not to vote for him.

Just goes to show that if you post a picture of a cat, I will like you enough to vote you into government. #IStandWithPurr

Well, for those of you who are thinking that Fenriz is going to be the Leslie Knope of Kolbotn, I'm sorry to disappoint.

The rocker went on to say that since he's in a back-up role, he'll only be filling in when it's absolutely necessary, saying,

Basically, I have to step in when the usual people who go to the big meetings are sick or something. Then I have to go sit there and feel stupid among the straight people. I'm a pillar of my community.

Although he's recently been elected, it will be four years before he's eligible to step down.

So get cozy, Fenriz. You're going to be in power long enough to justify bringing an actual dark throne to council meetings.
