A man has been jailed for two years after he was caught trying to meet up with a 13-year-old girl.

Richard Hewitt, 40, of Cheshire in the UK, tried to smash his phone to destroy evidence of a text exchange when he realized he'd been caught by vigilante group, "Dark Justice."

He first made contact with the fake profile on a chat room. Soon, he was sending her inappropriate messages on WhatsApp asking her to send "naked selfies."

In the disturbing exchange, Hewitt asked the fake girl if she was "horny ," what kind of bra she was wearing and whether or not she was ready to have sex for the first time.

Hewitt drove to Newcastle to meet the girl for what he thought would be a night of passion.

But when he arrived, "Dark Justice" campaigners blocked in his car and ambushed him.

Hewitt panics throughout the confrontation and repeatedly says,

I've done nothing wrong.

At one point, Hewitt takes out his phone and tries to snap it. Evidence from the cell would later prove vital in court.

The vigilantes tackled the pedophile to the ground -- one suffering a bite mark on his arm and another a dislocated thumb from the confrontation.

After he was sentenced to jail for two years, Hewitt said he needs "help."

A "Dark Justice" member, known as Scott, said after the sentencing,

He snapped his own phone and bent it like a banana, trying to destroy the evidence. He went crazy, he absolutely flipped out. He looks like a chihuahua, but he fought like a pitbull. He tried to take my phone. I was a bit shocked at the time. I wasn't scared, more angry. We have been spat on, but never anything like this.

The group has only been up and running for two years, but they have entrapped countless offenders, leading to 64 arrests and 34 convictions.
