15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who performed at President Barack Obama’s inauguration not even two weeks ago, was shot and killed in a park in Chicago.

Witnesses are saying that the young girl was walking through the park chatting with her friends when a man suddenly opened fire on the group. Hadiya was shot in the back as she ran for her life. It is believed that the girl was mistaken for the wrong person.

Her father, Nathaniel Pendleton, spoke out during a news conference held in that same park.

“He took the light of my life,” he said. Then added, speaking directly to the killer, “Look at yourself, just know that you took a bright person, an innocent person, a non-violent person.”

Hadiya was an honor student and active in her community. She was also a spokesperson against gang violence. She was featured in a YouTube video on the subject.

The family and Chicago police are offering $11,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
