An obese woman in New York City who is said to weigh over 400 pounds was hospitalized after falling through the sidewalk on the Upper East Side.

The 31-year-old 400-plus pound woman fell through the sidewalk on Friday night, on the corner of East 60th Street and 2nd Avenue.

According to witnesses, the woman fell about 7 feet into the basement of the Atomic Wings restaurant.

Emergency Medical Services and the Fire Department were called to the scene and the woman was eventually pulled out of the hole.

FDNY Fire Chief Thomas Jemmott told the New York Post that the woman had to be pulled up in a “high-angle rescue unit,” which resembles a crane with cargo netting.

“She is a very large person, but we were able to secure her and stabilize her and lift her out of the hole,” he said.

The woman was treated for a shoulder injury at a local hospital.

We’ve heard of people falling for New York when they come here, but I don’t think that’s what they mean.
