At Least 50 Injured In New York City Ferry Crash
A ferry traveling from New Jersey to lower Manhattan struck an object in the river while attempting to dock at South Street, leaving at least 50 people injured.
Dozens of people are currently strapped to stretchers with blankets over them near South Street seaport, with reports of head and neck injuries being probable.
The ferry, said to be the Seastreak Wall Street catamaran ferry from Atlantic Highlands, N.J., allegedly crashed into the dock as it arrived. Officials say one person is in critical condition with head injuries.
South Street on the east side of Manhattan is flooded with emergency vehicles, so it is best to avoid the area if you’re driving in Manhattan.
The ferry is shown to have sustained damage on the front-right side, with the metal ripped through as if it were a candy bar wrapper.
The accident happened at approximately 8:45 AM.
We will have more details when they are available.
