Birthdays are always special when you’re a kid, but when you turn 12 at exactly 12:12 PM on 12-12-12, you have every right to say it’s especially cool.
Kiam Moriya officially celebrated his twelfth birthday about 12 minutes ago, at 12:12 PM on 12-12-12.
His birthday truly is a a once in a century occurrence.
Moriya’s parents said they didn’t even realize the coincidence until they went to fill out his birth certificate two weeks after he was born.
“The lady who was helping us fill out the forms said, ‘Do you realize your son was born December 12 at 12:12 p.m.?’” Kiam’s father, Kazuo Moriya, said. “That’s when it really hit us with all those twelves. I do have to admit that it might mean something, but I have no idea what. It’s definitely a little crazy.”
“There are these weirdos out there online, all these doomsday people, saying he needs to be killed and that he’s the Antichrist,” his father told Today. “We’re trying to tone it down because it’s a little freaky. It’s just a fun little story.”
Moriya emigrated from Tokyo when he was 15 and now works for an automotive manufacturing supplier in Alabama.
The number 12 does hold major significance, however, as the Japanese consider 2000 to be the 12th year in the reign of the current emperor and is known as “Heisei 12.”
Moriya was ordained in Japan as a Presbyterian minister, and said the number 12 had major biblical significance from the 12 apostles to the 12 tribes of Israel.
“A lot of people didn’t believe it,” he said. “We had to bring the [birth] certificate to show people just to prove that we’re not making it up.”
Kiam is just looking forward to get passed all of the attention.
