A turkey was kept in a cage, seriously injured and killed at a Lawrence fraternity house, the Lawrence Police Department said.
Police said they were called to the Beta Theta Pi frat house at 10:46 p.m. Friday and determined that a turkey had been kept in a cage during a party at the house.
The animal was poked through the cage and heckled during the party, police said. The turkey was eventually let out of the cage, abused by several people at the party, seriously injured and then killed. Police said the person that killed the turkey stated he did it to end its suffering.
A cruelty to animals case has been opened and will be forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration once the investigation is complete, police said.
