Bike Thief Tries to Sell Stolen Bike on Craigslist, Gets Busted By Victim
Hipster justice has been served in the northwest, after a Portland resident traveled 160 miles to Seattle in order to retrieve his bike.
Portland resident “Simon Jackson’s” bike was stolen on August 3rd in Stumptown, Oregon. According to a video posted by Simon on Tuesday (which has gone viral thanks to Reddit), the bike cost $2,500.
Simon noticed a Craigslist ad for his bike on August 7th, but it was located in Seattle. So Simon took a road trip with some of his buddies to retrieve his bike, as well as bring justice to the thief.
After devising a plan with his friends, things escalated quickly when Simon confronted the thief, who took off running. Simon hopped on his newly reunited bike and chased him.
All recorded on video, Simon had the thief spilling the beans ever so slightly, as he initially refuted the idea that it was stolen, and that he had purchased it on Craigslist. Eventually, the suspect admitted he had known the bike was stolen, but said it was not illegal to knowingly purchase stolen goods.
This guy should have checked with his lawyer before making that assessment, as he was eventually cuffed and charged.
Messing with a hipster’s bike is almost as dangerous as taking away his Pabst Blue Ribbon. Don’t even think about it.
