Bill Clinton Wins Father Of The Year, But Still Will Never Win Husband Of The Year
Bill Clinton may never win any Husband of the Year awards, but he has been recognized as Father of the Year, even receiving recognition from his wife Hillary.
The 42nd President of the United States received the honor at a Save the Children benefit held on Tuesday by the National Father’s Day Committee.
Former Father of the Year honorees include Al Gore, Shaquille O’Neal and Randy Jackson.
The award dates back all the way to 1942, when it was given to Douglas MacArthur, and is now generally awarded to 4 to 6 people annually.
“I [received] a text message from Hillary [Clinton] saying, ‘Congratulations. I think you deserve this,’” Parade magazine quoted President Clinton as saying. “In our family, that’s a very big deal.”
Bill’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, presented her father with the award, saying he “set the bar very high” for her husband, Marc Mezvinski. No pressure, Marc.
“Every day he’s my dad, and I don’t need an award to tell me he’s the best that I ever could have hoped for,” Chelsea said. “But I’m grateful he’s getting the recognition that I, of course, his unapologetically-biased daughter, think he’s always deserved.”
Despite his political achievements, Bill always put being a father first.
“During the sole argument we had when [Chelsea] was in high school, the subject of which I don’t even remember, I looked at her and said, ‘As long as you’re in this house, being president is my second most important job,’” he said.
There’s no word whether Bill’s unborn children found on Monica Lewinsky’s blue dress were mentioned during the ceremony.
