We Have All Been Blessed With ADD

ADD is a term just as popular with our generation as YOLO is. It is safe to say a large percentage of the people among this generation are currently blessed with the greatest gift of all time- that is of course ADD. Our focus levels are comparable to one of a goldfish and our procrastination has hit an all time high with all the different social media accounts we have ourselves wired into.

The concept of ADD has stemmed from our young beginnings and has managed to carry over in the rest of our lives. We have been the ones that have always been babied throughout our lives and the ones that never wanted to do any hard work, but expect to receive the best results possible from it.

This is why we all cheat on our exams and tests- if everyone else is doing it to excel, why shouldn’t we be doing it too? We are too concerned with things that actually interest us and things that have excites our minds like creativity, which has been stripped from us because of our schooling system.

That is why I believe we all have ADD, because we are being forced to learn things that we absolutely hate that are dictated to us by the program of a textbook, that was put into our syllabus and told to us that this is the way it’s going to be no matter what.

We have no room for processing information or being creative with information; rather, the schooling system has turned into a game of memory. We are forced to memorize hard facts, which is why we hate it.

As humans, our minds are wired to be creative. That is where we thrive and that is where innovation comes from; that is how mankind manages to progress and excel- by thinking outside of the box and by being excited about what we are doing.

That has been stripped from us. Society has been trying to turn us into robots. They are trying to mold us into the perfect average person that ends up miserable and dies with their mortgage.

This is why so many kids hate school and have become lazy. Because the stuff that excited them and gives them creativity is no longer there, it has turned into a dictatorship where we are threatened if we don’t cram and memorize all of this useless information then we are going to be failures in life.

The concept of the C students running the world is true. School is a place where former A students teach mostly B students to work for C students. The C students understand that they are not going to waste their time learning things they don’t care about and are just going to float through school so they can then pursue what they love to do.

A study done back last year has showed that we as a generation are lazier than any other generation before us.  It reveals that we value leisure far more highly and are likely to see work as less central to our lives and simply as a means of paying the bills.

The younger generation wants to have their cake (big salaries) and eat it too (work-life balance). Generation-Y was much more likely than previous generations to say they wanted a job with an easy pace and lots of vacation time, and less likely to want to work overtime.

To look at these and wonder why this has happened we have to look at what could have possibly changed. The first thing is the lack of creativity and the way we are being taught life in a dictatorship fashion. Society is trying to shape us and scare us by saying if we don’t do well in school we will fail in life.

And that is what has caused us to be lazy and think we all have ADD. Not because we’re idiots but because we hate the damn study guides, equations, and the nonsense that these schools make us study to “ensure” our future.

The reality of it is that no future is certain and that the job market is still actually terrible with more than 50% of graduates from last May still unemployed. Society has made us lazy and has made us get around all these tests by cheating and just floating through college- floating through life as well. This is why so many people end up average; they are never taught to think outside the box. They are only taught what is in the book.

If you look at anyone who is successful in this world they will tell you that school is the biggest waste of time. It has caused us all to be prescribed to pills to help us focus. But if you throw away your pills for a second and do something you love for an hour, you will be shocked with how well you are able to focus.

Don’t let society bring you down and try to turn you into a robot. And don’t let your ADD be an excuse for everything. This is your life and you need to think for yourself. Think outside the box.
