Hero 13-Year-Old Boy Saves Mom From Abusive Boyfriend By Stabbing Him

by Emily Arata

A 13-year-old boy from Phoenix reportedly saved his mother's life after her abusive boyfriend attacked.

Darvon reached for a kitchen knife after his mother's long distance boyfriend, Keith Childress, 26, began beating her while threatening the boy and his 15-year-old sister.

He stabbed Childress repeatedly, acting on his instincts.

He said,

It was my instincts, I had to stop it... I was a little bit nervous.

The boyfriend ran out of the house to a neighbor's home, where he allegedly begged for help covering his "deep" gash.

Darvon's mother told local press,

It was a bad situation and my son felt like the only way he could save my life was to do what he did. And he really saved my life. If it wasn't for him, I'd have been dead or in a coma. I'm sure of it. It was bad.

Childress has since been treated for his injuries and will reportedly face charges of domestic violence.

Sergeant Trent Crump announced,

Certainly a very brave young man this morning, and a decision you would hope that no 13-year-old or 15-year-old would have to make in this kind of case, but he has... he seems to be okay.

Darvon, who hopes to be a police officer one day, has seemingly taken his first steps toward a life of justice.
