A police officer from Dearborn, Michigan, was seen on video during a routine traffic stop issuing a woman a citation for failing to inform him that she is HIV positive.
A 29-minute dash-cam video posted on YouTube shows Officer David Lacey informing Shalandra Jones and her boyfriend, Mark Scott, that he was ticketing them since he was “aggravated” that she did not reveal her HIV positive status before he searched her vehicle.

Lacey is shown saying “I don’t want to catch something” and “I got a family,” before writing her up a ticket for a broken taillight.

In response to the incident, the Dearborn Police Department will have its employees undergo training on dealing with subjects pertaining to HIV and AIDS.

Lacey said that if he had not found her HIV medication and she had disclosed her status beforehand, he would not have written up a ticket.

There is currently an internal investigation of the traffic stop.
