Couple Sold Neighbor’s Lost Puppy For $50 On Craigslist Instead Of Returning It Home
Many people have twisted thoughts about their neighbors’ pets, but barely anyone acts on these impulses. A sick Pennsyvania couple is being accused of selling their neighbor’s puppy on Craigslist for $50 rather than return it to the owner.
Scott Duff, 41, and Roxanne Duff, 38, came across a golden retriever and a six-month-old Rottweiler at their home on September 3, police said.
When Mrs. Duff called police asking what she should do with the dogs, authorities told her to call her local animal shelter or dog catcher.
The couple decided to give the golden retriever back to their neighbor, but claimed that the puppy had run away.
The neighbor was suspicious that the couple still was in possession of the puppy, however.
The Duffs initially denied the accusation, but when confronted by police, they admitted to advertising the dog on Craigslist and selling it for $50.
Mrs. Duff told police who had purchased the dog, a woman from Pittsburgh who had no idea the puppy was stolen.
The couple was charged with not making a reasonable effort to return lost property, two counts of conspiracy and filing false reports.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 31, the Dispatch reported.
