Outraged families are looking for answers as an enraged 36-year-old man was able to bypass security and walk into a fifth grade classroom in an Idaho school, assaulting students and putting one into a choke-hold.
The incident happened at the Highland School in Craigmont, Idaho, and Byron Scott Edwards, 36, who is already in prison over charges of felony theft and possession of methamphetamine, has a warrant for his arrest in connection with the incident.
Grandmother Jerry Peery, whose grandson attends the Idaho school, is outraged that she only found out about the incident when the boy returned home from school on Monday.
“The police were called only after the kids came home and started telling us parents what went wrong,” Ms. Perry said. “I would at least like an apology.”
Yesterday, after several days of investigation, a Lewis County Magistrate Judge issued an arrest warrant for Edwards.
Ms. Peery said staff should have reacted more quickly, especially following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
She is now looking for an apology from the school.
“I’d like the school to admit they were wrong,” Peery said, adding that she has now hired a lawyer.
