Fashion designer Carrie Hammer celebrated her 29th birthday last week. Rather than having a traditional birthday party or dinner where people would bring her gifts, Carrie decided to give back to anyone who crossed her path.

The same person who prides herself on casting “role models not runway models“ in her fashion shows, Carrie continued to spread her love and kindness by giving away free flowers to random pedestrians outside Central Park. Along with a team of friends and smiling faces, Hammer passed out over 2,900 flowers that were donated by 1-800-Flowers for the event.

This was Carrie’s third birthday running the event she calls #BirthdayGives, which inspires people to give back on their birthdays rather than receive. I think anyone who crossed paths with Carrie in her big pink tutu and a black top hat last Saturday can agree, it was a very happy birthday for everyone.

Why Teaching Programs In America Aren’t Actually Helping Our Education System

At age 22, I sat in a graduate school classroom and listened as my professor undermined my career. “You,” she said, referring to me, and the majority of my classmates, “are arguably part of the problem. Your program perpetuates this idea that anybody can be a teacher. Doesn’t that hurt the profession? Don’t you feel […]
