Girl Accidentally Shot Brother In The Head While Posing With Gun For Facebook Picture
An attempted selfie has gone terribly wrong, as a 19-year-old girl accidentally shot her brother in the head while trying to pose for a picture while holding the gun on New Year’s Eve.
Manuel Ortiz died instantly after being shot in the head at about 6 AM on Monday morning.
Friends and family were shocked and cried as the body was carried from the siblings’ Phoenix, Arizona apartment.
According to authorities, the 22-year-old Ortiz and his sister Savannah Ramirez arrived back at the apartment after hours of drinking.
The siblings and two others were taking pictures when someone pulled out a handgun to pose with.
While holding the gun, Ramirez accidentally pulled the trigger, killing her brother.
Ramirez was questioned by police pending further investigation.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos said Ramirez will likely be charged with manslaughter if tests indicate that she had alcohol in her system at the time.
“Every New Year’s Eve, this particular sister is going to be thinking about this for the rest of her life on how…drinking overnight, playing with a gun and now shoots and kills her brother,” said Martos.
Friends said the shooting was a terrible accident.
Friends remember Ortiz as a kind and funny guy.
“He was a very close friend to everybody,” said one friend who wished to remain anonymous. “He was just always there and it’s sad because one second he’s here and the other he’s not.
“Every time he saw somebody sad or down he would be right there making jokes so you could be happy. Even if he was just having a hard time he was always there for someone,” said the friend.
Authorities are looking into who the owner of the gun is.
