The Government Can Keep Tapping Your Phone And E-Mails Without A Warrant

The Government Can Keep Tapping Your Phone And E-Mails Without A Warrant
World

The House of Representatives voted yesterday for a five-year renewal of The FISA Amendments Act.

The FISA Amendments Act, for those unfamiliar, is a warrant-less wiretapping program created during the George W. Bush administration.

Without any probable cause or a warrant, the government can bug phone calls and the e-mails of American citizens if one of the contacted parties is believed to be outside of the country. The eavesdropping is done in an effort “to acquire foreign intelligence information.”

Targeted parties are unaware that their communications are being monitored and the request to intercept calls and e-mails is done by a secret FISA court. No part of this process is public to the American people.

The bill was set to expire at the end of the year but has now been extended until December 31, 2017. It was originally enforced as a security measure following the September 11 attacks.

With many al-Qaeda top bosses captured or dead including leader Osama Bin Laden was it necessary to renew the act? Are you comfortable knowing the government may monitor a simple phone call to friends and family overseas?

The plot is superfluous; the amazing element is what’s happening behind the camera. This short comes to us via DJI Innovations and was produced to showcase the company’s latest development: the sub-$5,000 Ronin gimbal […]

Tree Defies All Odds And Replants Itself After Being Knocked Down (Video)

Right in time for Earth Day, and harnessing all the majestic force of Mother Nature herself, watch this tree defiantly replant itself after being chopped down. If this isn’t an unapologetic and symbolic protest on behalf of naturalists everywhere, I don’t know what is. Even the men yielding the chainsaws had to give pause to […]

News Networks Might Keep Trying, But They Will Never Win Over Millennial Viewers

When “Good Morning America” unveiled its “Social Square” last month, a new digital studio that will serve as the morning show’s social media headquarters, I couldn’t help but feel both flattered and offended. Adorned with bright screens lining its walls, a social media slot machine that generates random questions submitted from Twitter and Facebook, a […]
