A heartbreaking series of photos depicts a loyal dog trying to revive his buddy on a busy road for six hours, but the other dog had long been dead.

The loyal dog tried to revive the other dog by licking its head after she was hit and killed by a car in Zhangzhou, Fuijian Province, China.

After being unable to wake her, the loyal dog stayed by her side for six hours.

“He stayed beside her the whole day, keeping licking her and pushing her, trying to wake her up. It’s very touching,” said Xiao Wu, a butcher who works on the busy street.

Xiao said after the accident he saw the male dog running around and trying to “hug” the female dog with his forelegs.

“Then he pushed her with his head, and licked her face. I even saw tears,” the butcher added.

Xiao said the female dog was a stray he had recently started to feed. Then, a week ago, the male dog turned up.

“Then I realised she had a boyfriend. They were together all the time, playing and in love.”
