Homeless People Read Mean Tweets About Themselves In Powerful PSA

by Gillian Fuller

Though homelessness is one of the most prevalent social issues in the country, it's also one of the most stigmatized.

To raise awareness for the issue, Canadian social advocacy group Raising the Roof recently created a powerful PSA inspired by Jimmy Kimmel's "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" segment.

But instead of celebrities, it's disadvantaged men and women who read the mean tweets -- and it's absolutely heartbreaking.

Raising the Roof's goal is to remind viewers that “the conversation around the issue [of homelessness] needs to change.”

The video shows how flawed our cultural attitude towards homelessness -- and our tendency to blame the victim -- truly is.

Spread the message via the #HumansForHumans hashtag, and learn more about the campaign here.
