A group of inmates working in a Washington park became heroes after jumping into a rushing creek to save three boys whose kayak had capsized.

The three brothers screamed for help as they were carried in the strong current past the Salmon Creek Regional Park. Inmate Nelson Pettis stripped off his heavy jacket and dove into the frigid water, as did Larry Bohn.

A third man, John Fowler, took off running through the woods to lead a rescue team toward the creek.

After being pulled from the water, the boys and the inmates were all treated for hypothermia.

“I don’t think we’re heroes,” Fowler said.

“I think we just did what any good person would do.”

5 Common Misconceptions About The Federal Minimum Wage In The US

Minimum wage has been a hotly contested topic since it was first introduced in Washington in 1912. It started as a state-by-state initiative — until the first federal minimum wage was instituted in 1933, at 25 cents per hour. The federal minimum wage was quickly ruled unconstitutional until 1938, when Congress passed a law allowing for […]
