A would-be thief, who attempted to rob a store at gunpoint, is lucky to be alive as the cashier turned out to be an Iraq War Veteran holding a firearm of his own.
Daily Mail reports that when 54-year-old Jon Lewis Alexander had a gun pulled on him at work, he drew his own weapon a split second afterwards and put it inside the thief’s mouth.
The exchange took place Saturday night in Marionville, Missouri, and was caught on tape by CCTV.
Though police said Alexander was lucky to have a gun on him, the vet told The Blaze “I think (the robber) is a little luckier than I am.”
Alexander served four tours in Iraq and has worked as a prison guard and private investigator.
In the video, the thief is seen entering the store while smoking a cigarette, which Alexander politely asks him to put out.
The thief then reaches for his gun and demands that Alexander give him all the money in the cash register.
Blocking the thief’s aim with one hand, Alexander grabs his Walther PPX 9 mm from his back pocket with the other and tells the thief he will blow his head off if he doesn’t leave.
The shaken thief walks out of the store.
Store owners Max and Jeannie Dawson, who provided police and The Blaze with the CCTV footage, said they fully support Alexander’s reaction to the attempted robbery.
While Alexander’s wife was initially horrified to hear what happened, she eventually calmed down after seeing the footage.
“It took her a while to calm down,” he said. “But I got all kinds of lovin’ when she came home,” he told The Blaze.
