Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and over 375,000 beholders have fallen head over heels for Tuna, this Chihuahua-Dachshund mix, on Instagram.
This adorable dog with a goofy overbite even has his own website, Tuna Melts My Heart, and the dog has lived the high life since being adopted by Courtney Dasher, becoming a celebrity of sorts.
Merchandise featuring Tuna’s face can be purchased on this web shop, including iPhone cases, t-shirts and mugs.
The shirts come in men, women, children and dogs sizes.
A portion of the proceeds goes to the ASPCA, as well as the rescuer who originally found Tuna.
Tuna’s aggressive overbite and lower jawline dysfunction give him a special look that some find hideous, but most agree is adorable.
“He was not only different physically, but his personality was so lovely and endearing,” Courtney told Darling magazine in January.
Tuna was initially discovered on the side of the road in San Francisco, where his original owners seemingly left him.
Courtney found him at a farmers market and had to have him, initially naming him Mr. Burns after the Simpsons character. The resemblance is uncanny.
Eventually, Courtney settled on the name Tuna.
Courtney loves everything about his goofy appearance.
“He has funny teeth that stick out, moles around his mouth, a crumpled chin and a neck that looks like it’s been soaking in a bathtub for days!”
“I had fallen in love with him and I wanted him to know how much he would be loved by me.”
Courtney began to post photos of Tuna on Instagram and to her surprise, he developed a massive following.
She believes Tuna represents a courage that many people with insecurities about their appearance can feel inspired by.
“There are countless individuals who are wounded by hurtful words and harsh opinions because they are judged by their looks, and not by their hearts,” said Courtney.
“I would never have imagined that a little unwanted dog could have this much of an impression on people, by bringing them so much joy and laughter,” she wrote. “But then again, he is not your average dog.”
We won’t lie; we think Tuna is pretty awesome, too!
