CreditDonkey has compiled a list of the top 10 cities with the most heartbreak.

To gather their data, the site first examined how long the typical marriage lasts in each state. The national average is 19.4 years, with the shortest marriages occurring in Washington DC at just 12.4 years.

The next step was looking into the number of dating services around the country, since a high demand for dating services represents a long trail of heartbreak. The cities with the most dating services turned out to be Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

CreditDonkey then studied the 2012 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which evaluated the emotional and physical health of 1,000 adults across the US.

According to this study, the happiest place in the country is Lincoln, Nebraska, which is also the state with the second shortest average marriage.

And no study on heartbreak could be complete without some data on STDs since, as CreditDonkey says,

“Nothing quite says heartbreak like a venereal disease.”

The site lastly looked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2012 data on gonorrhea, which currently plagues 121 out of every 100,000 people.
