Oreo’s Capitalizes Brilliantly On The Super Bowl Black Out
While last night’s black out was viewed as an annoyance by anyone watching, the distraction from the game was also a fabulous advertising opportunity for the most clever and resourceful businesses.
Several companies including Tide and Calvin Klein tweeted the most clever ads imaginable during the power outage that incorporated the black out to the capabilities of their product.
Only one company struck gold with this technique, however, with an ad that was reportedly re-tweeted 13,734 times.
It was Oreo that capitalized on the black out in the most effective fashion with a tweet that read “Power out? No problem,” accompanied by a picture of an Oreo beside a darkening back ground and their brilliant tag-line “You can still dunk in the dark.”
Apparently, an advertising team was already at the Oreo headquarters that night, preparing several tweets or commercial ideas to be used in the near future. So as soon as the power went out, the team came up with this tweet on the spot and then contacted a few Oreo executives for approval.
The tweet was released a matter of minutes into the black out.
Great job replacing the absence of one great American past time with another: milk and cookies.
