Porn Industry Shuts Down After Another Porn Star Tests Positive For HIV

by John Haltiwanger

After another porn star tested positive for HIV, the porn industry took no further risks and all filming in Los Angeles was stopped on Thursday, August 28. His or her name has not yet been released.

The production moratorium was brought forth by the Free Speech Coalition, an advocacy group for the adult film industry.

This is not the first time this has happened, as the industry was shut down last year when an actress tested positive for HIV. In 2013, there were three reported cases of HIV among porn stars. This is the first instance in 2014.

The increased instances of STDs among porn stars led California lawmakers to propose a law that would require all porn stars to wear condoms. Many within the industry have rallied against this, fearing a negative impact on sales.

In Los Angeles, all porn stars are required to wear condoms during filming, but this law is not enforced statewide.

Obviously, there is still a need for precautions to be taken in an industry fueled by sex. After all, if the actors and actresses do not remain healthy and safe, porn will cease to exist.
