US Reports Highest Number Of Shark Attacks In More Than A Decade

The United States saw 53 shark attacks in 2012, the most attacks since 2000, a year that saw the same number of attacks.

Of the 53 attacks in 2012, only one of the attacks was fatal.

In 2011, however, only 31 shark attacks in the United States were reported.

Nearly half of the incidents in 2012 occurred off of the coast of Florida, as 26 took place in Florida, 10 in Hawaii, and five in California.

One of the California attacks was the fatal one.

Other attacks occurred in South Carolina, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon and Puerto Rico.
