A pair of saber-toothed cat fossils were found just north of Las Vegas. The two fossils were found by researchers from the Bernardino County Museum of California.

The fossils have just be identified as belonging to a saber-toothed cat.

Researchers have longed believed the area to be home of Mammoths, bison, and camels- food for the saber-toothed cats. Senior curator for the museum, Kathleen Springer said, “We knew it had to be there. There was all this amazing lunch everywhere.”

Eric Scott, the museum’s curator of paleontology, compared the bones to modern cats first, but decide “they were way too big.” He then decided to compare them to extinct cats instead.

Scott informed that, “To come up with a meat-eater (fossil) at all is unusual. It showcases the significance of the site, even in terms of the rare animals … We’re pretty excited about it.”

These fossils are believed to be about 15,590 years old.
