The human body has always been treasured for its healing powers, with its ability to recover from nearly any type of debilitating injury or ailment.

Throughout time, scientists have used different cells in our bodies to cure us from things the human body couldn’t naturally dispose of on its own. This might be the weirdest form of this research in recent memory.

Chinese scientists have discovered a technique to single out kidney cells that are found in urine and convert them into neural progenitors, which are essentially pre-brain cells. That’s right, pee is turned into a type of cell that we thought could never be replaced.

Although cell reprogramming has been done successfully many times before, it has never included such an unorthodox process as utilizing kidney cells found in urine. This newly discovered technique will be very beneficial for advancement in the continuous study and treatment methods of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.

On top of that, while the use of embryonic cells in transplantation can bring up the risk of tumor development, the use of the neural progenitors does not. What’s even better is that these pre-brain cells can greatly assist the production of other cells for individual patient’s treatment; much quicker than traditional methods currently allow.

Finally! The Scientific Reason Why Scratching Makes You Itch More

The blissful relief of scratching an insect bite is almost worth the brief pain and doubly intense itchiness that follows. As the neurotransmitter travels […]

10 Ways Working Dead-End Jobs Teaches Us To Be Better People

We have all been there: the second shift at McDonald’s, dishwasher at the pancake joint down the street or sign waver for H&R Block. These jobs became the routine that we hated, and once our paychecks came, we only hated them slightly less. Only later, when we moved up the corporate ladder (or stepped on […]
