The New Smart-Guns That Could End The Gun Control Debate Right Now
Gun control has become a crucial issue after numerous mass shootings in the past year, and newly innovated “smart-guns,” similar to the gun featured in Skyfall, only shoots when gripped by its rightful owner.
Nick Bilton of The New York Times reports, utilizing biometrics and grip pattern detection could help prevent guns from ending up in the wrong hands.
These smart-guns would eliminate the secondhand gun market, as people would not be able to sell their guns to others.
According to gun policy expert Robert J. Spitzer, the gun industry has little incentive to make smart-guns.
“Many guns are bought and sold on the secondary market without background checks, and that kind of sale would be inhibited with fingerprinting-safety technologies in guns,” Spitzer said.
That’s right, the lucrativeness of the industry is preventing the people in power to pass legislation to avoid tragedies like the one at Sandy Hook.
