The graduating class, along with family, friends, and teachers, got a surprise when they went to Gammel Hellerup Gynasium’s graduation ceremony. The Denmark schools’ high school graduation video was interrupted by a video of a student having sex.
The video, which was supposed to contain pictures of the graduating class, showed graphic footage of a male student having sex with a woman who does not attend the school. The video was shown to a group of 450 graduates.
Principal Jorgen Rasmussen said that the school was not seeking charges against the student and the woman, especially because the footage seemed to have been shot using a hidden camera.
But according to The Copenhagen Post, Rasmussen is encouraging the couple in the video to file charges.
We’ve agreed not to press charges. However, we have encouraged the two young people who appear in the video to proceed with the case. It is really them, and not the school, that was violated.
Rasmussen revealed that the identity of the culprit is known and that they have been punished by the school, but he would not divulge the name or the punishment.
Media law expert Oluf Jørgensen said that the woman may not know the footage exists and would have a good case if she took any legal action.
Because the footage was shown at the morning ceremony, we’re talking about the disclosure of material that is offensive and that is a clear violation of the criminal law. Revealing sexual activity is a very serious violation and if the woman in the video files a civil suit demanding financial retribution, she’ll most likely win.
Jeppe Hald, the national project leader for Sex of Samfund, said that such acts are heavily influenced by what we now see on TV.
When they see people have sex on TV, it influences the limits of what they want to show of their private and intimate life.
