These students didn’t need a fancy backdrop for their graduation photos. Instead, the students from Dalian University of Technology City College posed while their school went up in flames behind them.

The fire broke out in a storage warehouse behind a dormitory in the university, located in the Liaoning province of northern China.

But before they all fled the scene, students made sure to get one final graduation picture, throwing their caps up in front of the smoke.

The students were then evacuated to safety at a hotel nearby while the fire was being extinguished.

Netizen ‘Brent-J’ posted a photo of the students using the tragedy as a backdrop. He wrote: “It’s too big of a coincidence to see the university on fire today, as it’s also graduation day. The students are filled with love in seeing the school burn.”

The photos then went viral online, being forwarded 3,000 times in two hours.

Although the students looked like they were celebrating the fire, college officials later posted photos online that showed students trying to put out the fire with super-soakers. One witness said,

They show the true spirit of the college. Our students shouldn’t be celebrating destruction.
