A study done by researchers interviewing 985 students at the University of Vigo in Spain found that although men will down more drinks than women, women will down more per-hour than men.
In other words, although women are lighter drinkers, they take shots more frequently than men, causing their night to end prematurely.
About 17% of American adults report binge drinking (men drinking 5 or more drinks within 2 hours and women drinking 4 or more drinks within two hours) around 4 times a month, averaging 8 drinks a night- according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It seems that binge drinking is most common among those between the ages of 18 and 34. In the U.S. mixed-gender housing seems to be one of the main causes of binge drinking resulting with those living in such housing complexes being 2.5 times more likely to binge drink weekly than those living in single-gender complexes.
