A woman who was acting suspiciously at Barcelona’s El Prat airport was discovered to be smuggling two kilos of cocaine implanted in her breasts.
The 28-year-old Panamanian woman was forced by drug traffickers to undergo surgery during which multiple bags containing large amounts of cocaine were inserted beneath the skin, similar to a breast implant.
When authorities stopped her, they discovered a blood-soaked bandage covering her chest, at which point she admitted it came from the operation that had cocaine implanted in her breasts.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital in the city, where doctors removed 1.8 kilos of cocaine - worth nearly $400,000 on the street.
The arrest may have saved the woman’s life, as she most likely would not have survived very long with that much of the drug in her system.
“She was in a very bad state when she arrived. She said she was not in any pain but the wounds looked very bad,” said a police spokesman.
