10 Reasons Why We Love MMA

10 Reasons Why We Love MMA
  • Endless Possibilities

"There are so many ways to win and lose in MMA...knockouts, submissions, left hands, right hands, but also elbows and knees. There's and upset on almost every card. On paper you can have a guy who looks like he has the tools to win, but one zig when you should have zagged and the fight is over. That's the way the sport is and why it gets people so excited."   - Matt Serra, former UFC welterweight champ  who TKO'd Georges St-Pierre at UFC 69 for the biggest upset in MMA history

  • Gorgeous Ring Girls

After every round of high-flying bone-crunching action, there is no better way to deescalate the mood then to have some of the most beautiful women walking across the ring reminding fans what round it is. MMA ring girls are exceptionally hot, especially compared to other fighting sports ring girls and professional cheerleaders.   Current MMA Ring Girls:   UFC - Arianny Celeste, Rachelle Leah, Brittney Palmer, Chandella Powell   Strikeforce -  Kelli Hutcherson, Jessica Harbour, Corissa Furr   Bellator - Jade Bryce   Pacific X-Treme Combat - Abby Pablador, Ayumi Sogawa   BAMMA, Cage Warriors - Hayley Sams

  • Brutal Endings

Mixed martial arts is not for the faint-of-heart to say the least. Many of the fights get straight barbaric and downright gruesome. Fighters must continue to compete through all types of bruises, cuts and even bone breakage. Unlike any other sport, these athletes must prepare like actual warriors; inflicting and fighting through all sorts of pain. The end result often looks like the work of some of Hollywood's greatest make-up artists as their faces are battered and bloodied.

  • Everyday a Star is Born

Gladiators like Jon "Bones" Jones, Junior Dos Santos, and Tony Ferguson are part of a new generation of sports stars. As MMA moves out of obscurity, fighters are now as athletes from traditional sports. There is such a great influx of talent in MMA that there is a handful new superstars every year it seems. Especially in the UFC you can see every weight division is absolutely stacked, and when you have this you get some of the most competitive and exciting battles in all of sports.

  • Brand Loyalty

Kevin James, Anthony Bourdain, Snoop Dogg and Ashton Kutcher all cheer at the sight of a well-executed gogoplata. Many celebrities and even athletes from other sports become fans and start to train themselves. They find many of the techniques and training skills useful and carry into their own sport or craft. Plus its just badass to know how to superman punch someone in the face. Now all we need is for a couple celebrities to step into the ring and show us what they got!

  • Beautiful women are into it

According to the UFC, 37% of its viewers are female! Jessica Biel, Paris Hilton, Cindy Crawford and Mandy Moore are all fans. Add the fact that their are even MMA leagues for women (some of which are actually hot) there is no excuse for your next MMA viewing part should be lady-less. We all know women like tough guys and whose tougher than an MMA fighter?

  • Weaknesses are exploited

Seriously, the official rule book prohibits "timidity, including avoiding contact with an opponent, intentionally or consistently dropping the mouth-piece or faking injury." MMA is not for sissies, in fact you have to be at least a little crazy to even fight in one of these matches. Once you step into the ring, there is no running back so man up!

  • Endless Innovation

Rear naked choke: Cuts off blood to the carotid arteries.   Bicep slicer: Bony limbs forced into opponent's bicep.   Crucifix neck crank: Deeply distresses the cervical spine.

  • Reality TV

The UFC started a show a few years ago that crosses Real World and MMA: The Ultimate Fighter. Here we can take a look into the lives of up-and-coming fighters and see what it takes to become a professional mixed martial artist. Through the years we have seen some of the UFC's finest talent come from this show; Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin and Chris Leben to name a few. It is the hard work and wacky personalities that makes this show so compelling and brutal fights that have us watching every week.

  • Massive exposure

Where ever you go, two fighters are beating the life out of each other near you. Whether it be UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator or Pacific X-Treme Combat you are sure to find a good MMA fight on television. They have made it more accessible than any other combat sport before and because its global interest you can find it on many different networks, languages and sites.

Everything You Need To Know About Marijuana

Jesus has risen, but how high did he get? While Easter and 4/20 falling on the same day is most definitely a weird coincidence, it will also highlight a pretty important public opinion on what’s more important: weed or candy eggs? Sto...

So High, So What?

You don’t have to be a consumer of marijuana waiting for stop signs to turn green to see that the legalization of the drug seems to be right around the corner. The most common illicit drug in America has become more mainstream than ever, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is joining in on the […]

Flip-Flop Socks: The Best Or Worst Idea Ever? (Photo)

I know what you’re probably thinking: “Flip-flop socks? What a terrible idea! What kind of idiot would buy these things?” You’d never be caught dead wearing socks and sandals, and you can’t understand why a product like this exists. Me? I love flip-flop socks. Don’t get me wrong, I’d never be caught dead in a […]

Bikini Bodies: Why Feeling Good In Your Bathing Suit Is Half The Battle

I, like every other bagel-addicted woman, have a complicated relationship with summertime. Or more specifically, the parts in which we prance around practically naked with nowhere to hide. Those moments especially suck. But what’s even more anxiety-provoking than the actual swimsuit part is the slow build up to bikini season. The few months leading up […]

This Guy Is Seriously Way Too Good At Making Animal Sounds (Video)

In a little under two minutes, watch this man impersonate a host of animals — and far too realistically. There’s little background on this talented vocalist, which may be for the best. He’s so expressive I feel like I already know so much about him. I wonder how much time and effort when into honing […]
