TO THE WOMAN IN THE GRAY VEST: IF YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE, SEND THESE NICE PEOPLE THE PHOTO YOU CREEPED.
Katie Mascenik and Joe Duarte are looking for the stranger who snapped the “perfect picture” of their engagement at Sunday's New York City Marathon.
The day of the race, Mascenik waited at mile 17 for Duarte to pass as she cheered. Instead, he stopped to tell her he loved her.
She told BuzzFeed,
He was running slower than he wanted to, and we were hoping he was OK. I think it was probably because of the nerves. When he came over to me he said, 'Hi, I love you,' and I thought, 'Wow, maybe he knows he's not doing too well, but it's still really weird.'
Duarte got down on one knee, pulled a ring from his pocket and proposed in front of the massive crowd before the couple kissed and Duarte continued the marathon.
Mascenik estimated the whole interaction lasted about 30 seconds.
Amid the bystanders was a woman in a gray vest and blue leggings who looks like she took a precious picture right at the moment Duarte popped the question.
In a video captured by a friend of the couple, the woman's face and her gold and white phone case are visible.
Mascenik posted an obstructed shot of the big moment on Facebook, regretting not asking the woman for a copy of the “perfect picture.”
While she hopes the magic of social media will help her hunt down the mystery photographer, Mascenik knows what truly matters.
Of Duarte, she said,
I have him, and that's way better than a picture.
I, for one, believe a picture is worth a thousand husbands.
SO COME ON, WOMAN IN THE GRAY VEST. DO THE RIGHT THING IN THE NAME OF LOVE AND AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY.
