The Lip Balm You're Using Might Be Giving People Severe Rashes

by Gillian Fuller

An angry customer filed a lawsuit against lip balm company Eos, or Evolution of Smooth, for false advertising and damages, after the celebrity-backed balm reportedly made thousands of people break out in painful rashes.

The class-action suit was filed in California by plaintiff Rachael Cronin, who reportedly posted photos to Facebook after developing a serious rash from the popular balm.

After receiving dozens of responses from other consumers who experienced similar reactions, Cronin filed a suit against Eos demanding financial reparation and the addition of advertising that clearly states the balm's potential side effects.

The lawsuit reportedly reads,

While boasting celebrity endorsements and magazine advertisements, and while making lofty representations regarding the health and curative effects of their lip balm products, Eos provides no warnings on its product, packaging, labeling or anywhere on the website regarding health problems... Eos lip balm has caused a massive health crisis among purchasers for which Eos has been on notice of for a substantial period of time.

The “health crisis” described in the suit refers to the rashes Eos users apparently commonly get around their mouths. According to the lawsuit, in severe cases, these rashes "caused consumers lips to crack, bleed, itch, burn, flake and generate severe boiling and blistering on and around the lips."

Several celebrities previously endorsed Eos products, including Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian West and Gwen Stefani.

Understandably, many consumers are angry with what they believe is the company's false advertising.

Thousands of people reportedly experienced painful side effects from the lip balm...

...and the problems started happening as early as April 2014.

Still, some consumers think those with sensitivities should just steer clear of Eos products.

In any case, Eos is facing serious issues.

So, if you're a fan, stock up on the lip balms now...

...because Eos might not be around for much longer.
