San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith downplayed his sprained right middle finger after Sunday’s rout of the Buffalo Bills, but the injury might be a might more troublesome than he believed.

“It’s very much of a concern,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday. “We’ll see how it is. Alex, it’s well-documented how tough he is. He talks about it not being a big deal, so we’ll see.”

More will be known about Smith’s status when Wednesday’s injury report is released.

The 49ers are set to begin preparations for Sunday’s rematch of the NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants.

Smith ran two more plays after he got hurt, scrambling for gains each time. Backup Colin Kaepernick then took over, and he scored on a 16-yard run on the ensuing play, then led a 69-yard touchdown drive to conclude the 49ers’ 45-3 win over the Bills.

Smith finished 18-for-24 for 303 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 49 yards on three attempts. Kaepernick completed his only pass for 7 yards, and he had 39 yards on four carries.

Just a heads-up for guys mulling over pick-up lines: Telling a woman to smile will not spark a friendly conversation. A parody video called “Smile,” written and directed by Jessie Weinberg, portrays what women think when guys tell them to smile. The Get Go, the first all-female Maude sketch team at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade […]

The Rule of 3: Why 3 Men In Your Life Is Always Better Than 1

I’ve been developing a theory over the past few months that I think has the potential to better the lives of Gen-Y women everywhere. A couple of years ago, I read Tucker Max’s “Asshole’s Finish First,” and while rummaging through the debauchery and chauvinism, I came across a glimmer of wisdom. Tucker developed a theorem […]

OK Go Accuses Apple Of Ripping Off Their Music Video During iPhone 6 Reveal

Apple unveiled its new iPhone and watch at yesterday’s big event in Cupertino. The product launch began with a video entitled, “Perspective,” which had a number of optical illusions. The video is a pretty clever visual expression of Apple’s core principles. Or so one would think. The video bears an uncanny resemblance to OK Go’s music […]

Why It Still Doesn’t Matter Whether Or Not Tony Soprano Lived

When “The Sopranos” ended in 2007 on a now-famous shot of its patriarch, Tony Soprano, sitting in a diner with his family, viewers cried foul. They were horrified by the ambiguity; they wanted to know if he lived, died or enjoyed drunkenly singing “Don’t Stop Believin’” as much as they did. The debate was resurrected […]
