CC Sabathia Talks About Struggle With Alcoholism In Emotional Interview (Video)

by Adam Silvers

This past October, the New York Yankees made their first postseason appearance since 2012, without the help of veteran starting pitcher CC Sabathia.

Sabathia was unavailable because he made the decision to seek immediate help for his addiction to alcohol.

The Yankees lost that one-game Wild Card playoff to the Houston Astros, bringing their 2015 season to an end. But what about CC?

This morning, Sabathia opened up to Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" in an exclusive interview.

The six-time All-Star explained why he went public with his decision to go to rehab, as well as the details of his secret three-year battle with alcoholism.

Sabathia said,

It was a tough decision to make because I felt like I was leaving my teammates, but I definitely needed the help to be a better husband, father, teammate, you know, player.

Not only did the 15-year veteran reveal the details of his battle with addiction, but he urged others who are suffering to seek help.

CC Sabathia obviously didn't have to do this interview with Robin Roberts, but in doing so, he shed light on a disease often swept under the rug in this country.

If he gave just one individual the courage to come forward and seek help, then the interview was more than worth it.

CC appears to be in a better place with himself and his family, and we salute the big man for his determination and perseverance.
