Cowboys, Redskins Salary-Cap Hearing Set
The arbitration hearing between the NFL, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins on the team’s salary-cap penalties is scheduled for May 10. League system arbitrator Stephen Burbank will hear the arguments for both sides. The hearings could take place at the University of Pennsylvania, where Burbank works as a law professor, or near Philadelphia.
Though motions must be filed in advance of the hearing, it’s expected to happen as scheduled.
Each team was docked for using the uncapped 2010 year to create what was characterized as an unfair competitive advantage going forward, putting large base salary numbers into 2010 on player contracts.
Dallas did it on wide receiver Miles Austin, while Washington spent on cornerback DeAngelo Hall and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.
Washington was penalized $36 million in cap space, while the docked $10 million.
