Ethiopian Goalkeeper Lays Down Dirtiest Hit Of The Year [Video]

In the first round of group play in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament, Ethiopia was looking to make an impression after making the tournament for the first time since 1982.

However, their first match on Monday in Group C was against the defending tournament champions, Zambia.

In the 35^th minute of the game, Ethiopian keeper Jamel Tassew tried to break up a breakaway run from Zambia’s Chisamba Lungu. This video was the result.

That’s one of the more vicious soccer plays in recent memory—a straight karate kick right to the forward’s stomach.

Tassew was carted off on a stretcher and given a red card by the referee while he was being carried off the pitch. I doubt he was able to argue, but he wouldn’t have had much of a case anyway.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
